What’s with the name?

Poison Put to Sound gets its name from a quote attributed to cellist Pablo Casals: “Rock ‘n’ roll is poison put to sound.” Intended as a diss, it is actually one of the coolest ways of describing music that I’ve ever heard. Just as the name Poison Put to Sound is a kind of reclamation, so is this blog’s content. It aims to show that classical music isn’t just for fusty old straight white men. It’s for everyone, and it can be pretty hardcore.

“Keller is creating a living archive of what’s happening at the intersection of queerness and classical music in NYC right now, in a way that the traditional press is missing entirely.”
